Not only was the young Cullen boy not able to read Bella Swans mind, he'd come to find out that her blood was sweet to the point that it drew the venom to Edward's throat causing a thirst he never had in a long time. A sigh came from his lips as he entered into the library, he had no idea how this place was going to be able to help him figure out why he couldn't hear her mind. It was literally driving him mad, he tried asking Carlisle about it, but the father like man was just as confused as the rest of the family was. Edward flitted down along the aisle that he figured he'd find the right books at, he scanned over the titles and when he thought he found the right one, he gripped it lightly and opened the book and flipped through the pages gracefully.
Edward groaned a bit as the book didn't help him any, he shut the book and put it back in it's place and figured that this was going to be effortless, he had a feeling he wasn't going to find out the reason behind all of this in this town of Forks or even in the state of Washington. No, he had a feeling he was going to have to branch out and go further and to others that were older. The Volturi. Just thinking of the name made him cringe slightly at the thought of going and being in their presences.
The vampire boy scanned through the different titles of the books and grabbed a couple that looked a bit more promising. Edward made his way over to an empty table, sat down and picked up one of the books and laid it out in front of him. He opened the book up and flipped through the pages as humanly as possible.

Bella had gone home after school first, to give Jake a call and see if they could hang out some time today, even if it was a school day. When she didn't get an answer, she left one on the answering machine, telling him to call her on her cell phone as she was going out for a bit. She needed to get a few books from the local library for a report, and a couple just for the fun of reading them. The last person she expected to see there was the guy who had been staring at her today, and she at him.
She had recently gotten a truck from Billy, Jacob's dad. Which she was happy about, even if it was rather old and couldn't go past 60 mph, it was better than nothing. Still dressed in what she had been at school that day, she turned off the engine once she was at the library. Getting out of the car she slipped slightly as a patch of ice was right next to her car. Holding onto the car door until she steadied herself, her cheeks went red and she hoped no one noticed. Closing the door, a few pieces of the chipping paint scattered to the floor and she shoved her keys into her coat pocket.
Watching where she was walking, she slowly made her way inside to the small library. She was relieved that the heat was working again, as a few weeks ago they were having issues with the burner. Putting her gloves into her pockets, she pulled her hood down and dusted the light snow off of her jacket and out of her thick brown hair. Sighing she turned at the sound of the librarian greeting her. "Hi." Bella said with a small smile before making her way from the door and into the main room.
Looking through a few isle's of books, she found the ones she needed quickly and then began to look for ones that interested her. She realized the ones she would want were on the other side of the room, she had to cut across the reading room. However, when she did, she caught sight of the last person she was expecting to see here and her eyes widened. "Is he following me? No don't be ridiculous, it's a small town." Bella tried reassuring herself before she quickly made her way across the room, hoping he hadn't noticed her.
Her heart was pounding in her chest as a rush of adrenaline coursed through her veins. Why was she panicking? There was really no reason to. Trying to calm down, she began to look through books, but she honestly wasn't paying attention as her mind kept going back to the pale boy sitting down and looking through books.

He was almost half way through the book when a scent came filling in through the library and caught his attention immediately. Edward did his best to look as if he couldn't smell the scent coming from the only girl that smelled that sweet, Bella. He felt his jaw tighten and he had to stop his breathing just a bit as he felt the venom burn at the back of his throat. The bronzed hair boy stared hard down at the book before him, trying to concentrate on the words in front of him. His hands started to clench up into fist and the scent came stronger and swarmed him when she came into the reading area and walked only a few feet away from him towards the other side of the library.
The boy kept his head down and felt his fist grip tighter into a ball. The monster inside of him was arguing with the sane side of him; he didn't want to attack this girl here in the library, to many people were around, even if there were at least five others there. It was innocent lives that he didn't want to have to take while in the process of killing this mere human that was annoying him deeply.
He finally gave up trying to concentrate on the book before him, it was useless with her in the same place as him. Edward felt the need to go over and talk to her, to try and find out why he couldn't read her mind. Giving in only slightly, Edward closed the book shut and stood up and walked over to the isle she was in. He put the slight crooked smile to his face as he flitted to her side "Hello." he said quietly.

Of course, Bella was unaware that he was suffering with her being here. Of course there was no such things as vampires, or werewolves. Looking through some books, she picked up one and turned it over to read the summary. Chewing on her lower lip, she decided to save that one for another time, as she wasn't in the mood for that genre. Picking up another book a few steps down from where she had been, she decided to get Wuthering Heights again, yes she loved that book. In fact, she probably should buy another one, as she had lost her old one.
As some of her brown hair fell across the side of her face, she quickly pushed it back, and from the corner of her eye she saw someone standing near her. Looking up she let out a gasp of surprise at how close said person was, and then realized who it was as he greeted her. "Uh...Uh," She stammered as she screamed at herself mentally to speak, "Hi." She choked out before her cheeks went red and she looked away briefly as if looking for another book.

He hadn't realized that he was standing close to her, until she looked at him and gasped a bit. Edward gave a few blinks and took a few steps back; especially since he saw the redness within her face, which meant the pulsing of her blood was rushing fast and causing her to blush as she choked out a simple 'hi' to him. Since he wasn't able to get into her mind to know anything about her, he was going to have to this the hard way. He glanced down at the book in her hand and gave a small laugh "Wuthering Heights." he stated "Interesting choice." he looked away from the book and back to her face with a smile.
Why not just lure her off into a darker corner of the library, away from everyone else and just bit her! the monster inside of him was pleading to him to just do it. He mentally growled at himself and felt his fist clench a bit as well as his jaw tighten up a bit No, I can't do that. I have to think of my family, think of what would happened if anyone saw it. To many innocent lives.. Edward just wished he could boldly as this girl why he couldn't read her mind, but he knew she'd just laugh and think of him and his family as even more freaks. That was something he didn't want, though, it did keep the humans away and kept them from being curious about him and his family.

Bella felt slightly relieved when he took a few steps back. Though she was curious as to why he had gotten so close to her in the first place. Not to say that she had personal space issues, most of the time, but he made her feel uncomfortable. She could tell something was not right about him, and she couldn't help but look at him from behind her hair. He had very pale skin, even compared to hers, and his eyes were a weird color, but those could just be odd colored contacts. Were those bruises under his eyes? Was he ill? He seemed fine, and why was she worrying over him anyway?
When she heard him laugh, she blushed again, even though she wasn't sure what he was laughing at. His laugh was almost musical. She heard the amusement to his tone as he looked at her choice of book, as if mocking it as he said 'interesting choice'. "It's my favorite book." She admitted before she leaned down to get another book that had caught her eye. Completely unaware of just how tempting she was to him.
Standing up straight again, she looked up at him and cleared her throat. "I'm Bella Swan, and you are?" She asked.

Finally, he found out something about her by just being, well, human in a sense. He now knew that Wuthering Heights is her favorite book. Edward was doing his best to keep his mind occupied with other things besides this blood that was rushing through her veins, just teasing him and tempting him to no end. He watched her as she went to check out another book and then straightened up and in that movement, the air whirled around him, causing her scent to crash into him like a boulder, it was strong and his throat was burning badly. Edward had a bad feeling his eyes were changing drastically and he hoped that she didn't notice.
Hearing her introduce herself, he tried his best to give her a pleasant smile "Nice to meet you, Bella. I'm Edward Cullen." he told her and if it wasn't for the fact that his body was cold as ice and how tempting she was to him, he would of held his hand out to her.

Bella pushed her brown hair behind her ear as she looked up at him briefly, he was gorgeous. Without even realizing it, a look of awe was expressed in her eyes, why was he looking at her? Or even talking to her? She was definitely not the prettiest girl in town, surely he could do better. A lot better than her. Clearing her throat, she glanced back down at the book she had just picked up, though to be honest she barely looked at what she had picked up. They really need to work out a system to put these books in the correct genre's, as the ones on this side were all scattered about. She must've picked up the wrong book, because this was something that she most definitely would not have picked up this particular book. Her face went red and she hoped he hadn't. A book about sex, what was this even doing here?
As quick as she could, she put it back, trying to be as subtle as she could when she did. Looking back to him when he introduced himself she smiled a tiny bit, "So, you're new here?" She questioned, wondering why she was having such a hard time concentrating on asking questions that were not stupid like the one she had just asked.

Edward had glanced a bit down towards the book that she had picked up; he did his best to try and not smirk or let a laugh escape from his mouth as the book in her hand pertained to sex. It was a bit amusing, at least, to this vampire boy it is. But, nonetheless, he kept a straight face and looked away quickly and glanced towards the books off to the side of him, acting as if he was really interested in them, when in reality, he was more interested in the human body next to him.
When he heard her speak, he looked away from the books and gave a smile to her "Yes. Me and my family just moved here." he told her in his velvety voice. But to Edward, he didn't see what was so grand about the way he looked or even spoke towards the humans around him. He guessed it was because he saw himself as a monster, not as the beautiful human that the humans saw him as. He wondered if they'd still think him and his family were still beautiful if they knew what the Cullen's really are.

Bella looked up and was glad that Edward didn't seem to have seen her with the book. Surely he would've said something if he had seen the book in her hands. She wonder why he left her at lost for words so often, she felt embarassed half the time as well. Running her fingers through her brown hair again she looked around for another book before she heard him speak up again. He had such a lovely voice, she wondered how he could speak so clearly. Most guys didn't speak like that from what she had heard. A lot of the guys at school thought they were from the ghetto, and not only did it effect their speech, but the way they dressed as well.
It took her a moment to realize something, Alice, the girl from her Study Hall before. Why had it took this long for her to put two and two together? Maybe because she found it hard to concentrate at the moment. "Your sister is Alice, right?" Bella asked softly.

Hearing her next words, trigger what Edward had heard in Alice's mind during the last period of the school day earlier; he had been furious at Alice for going and being foolish and speaking to her, but he guessed that he was just as foolish himself for speaking to this human right now. But it wasn't his fault; he was drawn to this girl and he had no idea why. A part of him figured it was because of how sweet her blood smelled and how he imagined it would taste..shut it, Edward.. he told himself mentally. He didn't need to think about her blood, he didn't need to think about how it would taste either.
Giving her his crooked smile, he nodded slightly "Yea, she is." as much as he was mad at Alice for going and talking to this girl, he had to admit, he was thankful for it as well. And Edward should of known that Alice wasn't going to listen to him anyways and go off and do something that he thought she shouldn't do. The vampire boy just didn't see a reason for the Cullen's to get close to any humans. Especially this human girl in front of him; the way she smells, even his siblings agreed that she smelt wonderful. It was dangerous for the lions to try and befriend the lamb.

Bella noticed a look in Edward's eyes when she had mentioned Alice. Suddenly she was reminded of earlier, in lunch. He had stormed out of there, and just the memory made her blush with embarrassment. Just then the heat turned on again, blasting through the vents and for a moment making her hair move around from the force of it turning on. Of course, she was completely aware that moved her scent around and would make Edward go nuts. When she looked more closely at him, she took notice to his odd eye color and it made her brows furrow unintentionally.
When he gave her a crooked smile it made her heart nearly jump out of her chest, and that emotion scared her. She had only felt that way with one other person...Jacob, and she had known him for years. She had just met Edward about 15 minutes ago, properly anyway. "Oh, well um, she's nice." Bella said before realizing how forced that sounded, but it was from her mind swirling around with a million and one thoughts.

Hearing the heat come on, causing it to blow down upon Bella, Edward felt her scent smack him right in the face as her hair whirled around. He could feel the venom really burning in the back of his thoart; the monster inside of him wanting nothing more than to really lure this girl away in a dark corner somewhere and just drain her completely. But he couldn't do that, he didn't want to expose his family, he didn't want to disappoint his adoptive father Carlisle. Edward stopped himself from breathing, but made the little movements he needed to make it look as if he was breathing; he needed to leave, but felt bound in this spot. He was definitely going to have to go hunting after all of this. And soon.
The reaction her heart gave after he spoke to her was one that was familiar to the Cullen boy. He didn't speak much to the other humans around him, but when he did spoke, even just one word, Edward would always heart their heart either skip around a bit in a rush or even stop for a few seconds and continue on with the beating. This and her answer made the crooksed smile spread a bit across his lips more "That's Alice." he told her. Edward was starting to feel uncomfortable not breathing, but he couldn't take the risk and tried his best to keep from breathing.

The heat was slightly relaxing to Bella, but not completely. For some reason, Edward being this close to her had her on the edge, and without realizing it, she had backed up a few steps. Bella shifted uncomfortably on her feet as she pushed her hair behind her ear. Bella wasn't sure what it was exactly, but there was something off about Edward. Though there was also something quite intriguing about him as well. Biting her lower lip, she looked around for a brief moment and noticed no one was around. Not at least where they were.
Though, that wasn't too unusual, as this place was never that crowded. Looking up at him again, her brown gaze met his golden one and she it started to feel harder to breathe. This was just at the sight of his crooked smile. He had a gorgeous smile, in fact, everything was gorgeous about him. Her eyes widened when she realized this wasn't right, to be thinking like this. "No, I have to stop thinking about him like this, I don't even know him." Bella thought to herself before she opened her mouth to speak, it took a minute for the words to leave her lips though. "I-I have to go." She stammered before she moved to go past him.

Edward watched her closely once more, though it was a bit hard, as the heat kept blowing down upon her and her moving her hair wasn't helping her scent to stay where it needed to be and was just getting thrown at him. He badly wanted to just take even a small sip of her blood, but he knew that would never happen, because if it did, then he'd end up killing her and most likely, someone would see it happen, thus causing another innocent person to die as well and so on and so on. Edward turned slightly away from her, staring towards the books again, trying to push the thoughts away calm down Edward..think of something else..think of.. he was at a dead end there. The boy really couldn't think of anything else.
He turned to look back at her and noticed her staring towards him once more. If he wasn't use to this coming from people all the time, he'd felt awkward, but he didn't. It was natural for people to stare at him and his family all the time; he was sure just like him, they were all use to it as well. Edward noticed that her eyes went a little wide and he figured that maybe she was thinking Ugh, I want to hear her mind! Why can't I hear it!? he shouted at himself, hating all of this and then she spoke and it caused him to blink a few times as she seemed to have trouble getting the words out.
He watched her walk past him, Edward turned around to look at her back "It'd be wise to be like everyone else, Bella." he spoke to her and with that said, he turned around himself and started to head away from the spot, feel the venom burn as he walked past where the girl had been standing.
