It was a Thursday afternoon, and Bella was looking forward to just one more day before the weekend. She hadn't slept well this week, for whatever reason. She felt sick to her stomach, like something bad was about to happen. That was probably what she got for reading a rather intense book, she let her imagination get the better of her a lot of the time.
Sitting at her usual table, she had her iPod on, not really in the mood to talk today for whatever reason. Picking at her salad, she picked out the soggy pieces of lettuce and put them on a napkin. Sighing quietly, she glanced around the cafeteria that seemed to be filling up with more people by the minute.

The Cullen's had moved back into Forks, WA. Yes, the family of vampires had been here once before, but that was a long time ago, the only people who would even remember them would be the werewolves and of course, just as the Cullen's, they weren't about to expose something that would make them all seem insanely mad. So, their secret was safe and hopefully for good; they had a treaty with the werewolves of La Push, promising not to harm any humans in La Push or even in Forks. But the Cullen's weren't like any other vampires; they were what they liked to call "vegetarians", which meant that they didn't feed from humans, but only animals. The way to really tell a part the difference between them and others would be to look into their eyes. The Cullen's eyes bore a topaz/golden color and only darkened, eventually turning black when they became hungry; the others, their eyes bore a bright red, especially after they have fed.
And since the Cullen's were back, the Cullen children were attending Forks High School, keeping up the appearance of being teenage children. Edward Cullen, he was the only one out of the bunch that didn't have a mate. It really wasn't his fault though, all other female vampires or any human that he'd come in contact with over the decades just never appealed to him the way Esme did to Carlisle, or the way Jasper did to Alice, or even the way Emmett did with Rose. But nonetheless, Edward was happy with his family and only showed it around his family. When alone in class with the other humans around him, he stayed quiet and to himself, but it wasn't as if the humans wanted anything to do with the Cullen's anyways. He thought of it as something good, that the humans were smart to take to their instincts and to stay away from him and his family.
Today, though, was their first day attending the school. Edward followed last behind his siblings as they entered into the cafeteria. They went in line and grabbed a tray full of food, though use only as props and nothing more. Once they all had their food, they made their way back to an empty table that would seem to belong to them and no one else. Edward sat down next to his brother Emmett, he rested his elbows on the table top, folding them across one another and chatted a bit with his family. Edward did his best to not allow his eyes advert towards any of the humans, though it was hard as he could heard them all, whether they were speaking the words or thinking them.

Bella must've zoned out, because she did not remember hearing gossip about the new people sitting at a table. Her brows furrowed when she tried to remember if she heard about them before, wasn't her mom talking on the phone with her friend the other day? Gossiping about a new doctor at the hospital. Maybe they were related to him or her? She looked at them for a brief second before looking away, but then she realized something was off about them, she could feel that in her gut.
Hesitating, she looked over at them again, her eyes focusing on them all before she spotted one of them, he had reddish hair and he had his eyes casted downwards. Brows furrowing, she stared at him before she found it difficult to do so and quickly looked away, hoping none of them had caught her staring. That would be very embarrassing. She began to wonder where her friends were, as she was still sitting at the table alone.

Ah the wonders of Forks, Washington. Always raining and rarely ever sunny, make life much easier for the Cullen family. Alice loved Forks really, it was a good place for her family and her, they didn't have to hide quiet as much, they could walk around in the day time without sparkling for one, and two Forks had a very small population, which, in Alice's opinion made it easier to stay away from the humans. They kept their distance and the Cullens kept theirs.
Alice walked thourgh the school parking lot with her 'brothers' and 'sister'. They were all adopted which was a good thing considering she was married to Jasper just like Rosalie was to Emmett. She walked next to Jasper with Rose and Emmett in front of them and Edward behind. Alice through a glance and a smile back at her brother. She couldn't see why Edward hadn't found someone he could spend his life with. He was your ideal gentalmen, always very polite, she hoped he would find someone soon, he deserved it.
When the Cullens entered the Cafeteria they gathered trays of food, so they would look somewhat normal. Not that the humans didn't find them strange anyways. Once they were all seated at their table, Alice chatted a bit with her family, but mainly stayed reserved to talking to Jasper or looking at the people in the lunch room as it slowly filled up. Alice's topaz eyes rested on a brown haired girl who was stareing at the table the Cullens were sitting at. She followed the girls gaze and found that she had been focusing on Edward. A small smile appeared on Alice's lips. She picked up an apple and pretended to be examining it, 'Edward, there is a girl over at that table that seems to be interested in you. She was staring.' Alice didn't say a word, she was thinking it, knowing that Edward could hear. Alice was forever trying to find Edward someone that he could be with, someone that could make him happier. Even if this girl was human, who knows, he didn't nessicarily have to tell her exactly what he was....

A small sigh came from his pale lips, as he didn't even bother to try and put a smile to his lips as he sat there. Mainly the conversation was between the two couples that sat there with Edward, it was slightly depressing to him and he tried his best to not show it towards his family, but he knew that his brother Jasper would be able to feel that emotion but was thankful that Jasper wasn't as out spoken about it as some of the others would have been, like his sister Alice.
Speaking of which, he heard her voice aloud from any other voice around him, he was curious as to who she was talking about and glanced out of the side of his eye, seeing that a browned hair girl was staring off towards the table, but how did Alice know for sure it was pinned towards him. Thus, Edward tried to listen in, trying to find her voice in her mind; it wasn't until he noticed that she was sitting alone did he realize why it was quiet at that table.
His eyes went a bit wide and Edward sat up a bit straighter and looked dead on at Alice "I..I can't hear her." he spoke quiet enough and fast enough that he knew only his family would be able to hear what he said. He couldn't stop himself from actually looking towards her, and when he did, he saw her look away quickly. Why couldn't he hear her mind? He could hear every single human and non-human person around him except for her.

Bella was pretty sure she had seen one of the girl's look at her as she turned away, and immediately her cheeks went red. Trying to ignore them, she went back to eating her salad. She looked up and smiled gently at Angela as she greeted her before taking a seat, "Hey." She said softly before glancing back over towards them again, trying to look as casual as she could. She saw the guy who she had been staring at, looking at her, and her eyes widened but for some reason she found herself unable to look away.
Just looking at him made her feel like the wind was knocked out of her. It was like a car accident, you couldn't help but stare. Her cheeks went red when she realized how stupid she must look, staring at him like that. She snapped out of her thoughts when Angela tapped her on the shoulder and she turned around quickly to look at her. When she asked who she was looking at she shook her head, "No one." She said softly before picking at her salad again. There was something so off about him, and the people sitting with him. She couldn't put her finger on it though, and it bothered her.

Alice leaned forward and rested her elbows on the table, and looking aniouxly at Edward. He couldn't hear her? How was that even possible? How could she be any different from all the other humans in this school? Alice couldn't come up with any explination as to why Edward couldn't hear this girl. "W-What? You can't hear her? How is that possible?" Alice spoke her thoughts aloud, not really expecting an answer, they were more questions of disbeleif. Alice watched as Edward stared at the girl, and Alice thought the girl was probably thinking he was a bit strange, or scarey, one or the other. "Edward, stop staring at her, people already think we are freaks. We don't need any rumors going around saying that your in love with that girl." Alice's voice was soft and calm, she knew it must be confusing for Edward, more than it was for the rest of them.
Alice turned her head to look at the girl again. Not quiet staring, more like surveying the girl. She was a pretty girl, very pale for a human, she looked like the quiet type. She watched as the girl greeted one of her friends that had just arrived at the table. Alice thought she looked like a nice girl, friendly but quiet, the kind of person that was very self-concious. If it was possible, Alice thought that if she would get to know that girl they could be good friends. She leaned back in her chair again and crossing her arms over her chest, throwing a glance at Jasper before looking at her apple and tossing it in her hand a little bit.

Edward quickly looked away when the human looked at him again and when Alice told him to stop as well. A small sigh came from his mouth as he looked towards Alice and saw what she was thinking, a low, quiet growl came from his mouth at her thoughts "Not going to happen." he told her. This was confusing to him, he heard the words come from her mouth and saw that Angela Weber appeared at the table with the girl and greeted each other, but he could not hear the voice coming from the girls mind. Angela's was clear as anyone else and his only way of finding out who this girl was, was to listen in on Angela's mind. He slightly hated it, but he wanted to know who this girl is; when he found out that her name is Bella Swan, he had to glance over at her once more.
He had no idea what it was, but he felt a bit draw to this girl. Maybe it was because he wanted to know everything about this girl, because he wanted to know why he couldn't figure out why he couldn't hear her mind. Edward had to force himself to look away from her and looked over at Alice once more. He crossed his arms over the table once more and leaned a bit forward "Bella Swan." he said, letting the words roll off his tongue and for some reason it felt right "Why can't I hear you?" he groaned out.

To be honest, Bella was slightly relieved when Angela came over and sat down. Deciding it was probably less rude if she turned off her iPod and at least pretended to listen to Angela when she spoke to her, she took out her ear buds and wrapped the wire of her headphones around her iPod before turning around to put it in her back. At the exact moment Edward said her name, of course she hadn't heard him, but it was quiet the confidence even still. Glancing up at him very quickly she then turned around to face Angela.
The brunette began to talk about how she was going to be doing a bake sale at her father's Church and she smiled before nodding. When she hesitantly asked Bella if she could help her out she thought it over for a minute, "Sure, when?" She asked, trying to get her mind off of the guy and his friends. When she told her this weekend she smiled before nodding, "Okay." She told her, a little surprised when Anglea reached over the table to hug her and thanked her. "Don't worry about it." Bella said with a surprised laugh.

Alice was a bit surprised by Edward's low growl that was directed at her. She could understand his frustration with not being able to read this girls mind, but sometimes Alice felt like she wanted a friend outside the vampire community. She sighed and averted her eyes from Edward's, why had she made the mistake of not shieding her thoughts from him. Of course he wouldn't want her to friends with this girl. Alice being Alice would bring the girl home to play dress up with her, and that could only be more frustranting if he had to be around her more than needed.
Alice placed the apple back down on the tray gentally before her irritation caused her to crush it. Sometimes she hated what she was, it prevented her from having a normal teenage life. Even though technically she was one-hunred and seven, and her and her family were more mature than a teenager, she was still stuck in her teenaged years, she was only seventeen when she was changed and there was still a part of her mind that was a teenager. A part that wanted to have a big group of friends that she could talk to and go shopping with, and all of that. Of course Alice only hated what she was sometimes. Most of the time she was happy with her life. She had a great family, and if she hadn't been changed she wouldn't have found Jasper or the Cullens.....
ooc;;blah, sorry it kinda sucks

Jasper had been quiet throughout the entire "episode", quietly surfing the current of everyone's moods, from Alice's curiosity to Edwards vague irritation. One hand was breaking the piece of celery in his hand into small bits, mainly from boredom and an extreme desire to leave the high school. He hadn't fed in a while, so his gold eyes were dark, almost black. It was dangerous, he knew, being not quite as controlled as Edward or Alice. Still, even with his throat burning, Jasper wrapped his free arm around Alice, anchoring himself in place, so to speak.
He carefully watched the girl Edward seemed to be growling at from the corner of his eye, frankly surprised that a human, especially such a plain one, would provoke such a reaction. It was even more of a shock when he discovered Edward couldn't read her mind. A human? If anyone else had told him, and he was not witnessing this with his own senses, Jasper would have laughed and walked away.
Still, passing students were dragging faint traces of Bella's scent in their wakes, making the burn a little worse. She smelled wonderful, like flowers almost. Like the kind Esme loved to go out, pick, and put in vases around the house.
Just as quickly, Jasper clamped down on those thoughts, knowing exactly where they would lead. He turned his head to face more towards Alice, his expression looking pained, as usual. He still didn't understand why Carlisle was willing to risk everything by letting Jasper mingle so closely with humans, knowing that his control was not the best. How would they explain themselves out of why Jasper ripped into another student's throat, trying to get at their blood?
Jasper sighed, arm squeezing Alice just a bit, picking up on her newest mood. To be with his pixie, he would have gone through the gates of hell, so he guessed that was one of the main reasons why he even bothered coming to Forks.

Edward kept his eyes on the table before him, staring hard down at the surface of it with a frustrated look upon his face. He listened in closely to the conversation that went on between the two human girls; Angela was asking Bella to join her in a bake sale at a church Angela went to with her family. A small sigh came from his lips, he listened to Angela's mind once more, then tuned it out along with everyone else around the human girl and everything was, well..silent.
Another low growl came from his chest, as he felt his hand clench into fist. Why couldn't he hear what this girl was thinking? And another thing, why was he even bothered by it so much? Why did it matter that he couldn't hear this girl, it was probably a safe to him, for he knew what almost every other girl in this school thought about him and the other Cullens. The girls were jealous of the female Cullens, envied them because of their beauty; adored the male Cullens because of their beauty. How gorgeous they thought they are; and the guys of the school, some of them seemed to envy the male Cullens as well, mainly envying Emmett for Rosalie as his woman.
All of these thoughts swam through Edward's mind every day. Some even wished they looked as beautiful was the Cullen children, this was a thought Edward did not like at all. He wish he could just tell them the horrifying details of how they became the way they are, but Edward knew he wasn't allowed to do that. It'd exposed them all, or it'd just cause humliation towards him and his family.
When a student rushed pasted Bella and the table that the Cullen's sat at, Edward got a smack in the face of the scent that belonged to the girl. Her blood was so sweet, so wonderful, it caused the venom to burn deeply into the back of his throat and causing his jaw to clench tightly. Edward had a feeling his eyes were turning a darker color, he needed the fresh air of Forks. He stood up from his place, grabbing the tray with the untouched food and dumped it all; food and the tray itself. Edward stormed through the doors and wandered outside.

Bella turned her gaze slightly when she heard Jessica call her name, sometimes she got mixed signals from Jessica, like she didn't want to be her friend and faked it. Still, she was nice to her. "Hey, Jess." Bella said with a small smile as the chattering girl took a seat and moved to unwrap the sandwich she had brought with her from home. She was of course, gossiping about the new kids in town. While Bella zoned her out, Angela was nice enough to pay attention to Jessica. When she could finally speak up, she asked Jessica if she would like to help her and Bella with the bake sale. When she said it sounded like fun and to count her in, Bella couldn't help but look over her shoulder again. Her brows furrowed slightly when she noticed how close the short haired girl and the blonde boy were to each other. Though they looked nothing alike, from what Jessica had just said, they were all adopted and had just come down from Alaska.
Even though they were clearly not looking at her, when she had her back to them, it felt like all eyes were on her. At least from the table full of the new kids. Stabbing her salad with her plastic fork she took a mouthful of lettuce before she nearly choked on it from the sound of the doors being slammed open. All eyes were on Edward Cullen as he stormed his way outside, and Bella's cheeks quickly went red. Had she done something wrong to make him want to leave?

Alice looked over at Jasper when she felt his arm wrap around her. She noted that his eyes were very very dark, he obviously hadn't been hunting in a while. She made a mental note that after school her and Jasper would go hunting. Yeah, while other kids went out to the mall or something for fun, the Cullens went to downsize the deer population by killing and then drinking the animals blood for fun, and to survive of course. Alice knew it wasn't safe for him to be around this many humans when he hadn't been hunting in so long. She wondered why he had waited so long to go but decided it was better not to question him now. Not while he was dealing with Edward's frustration and every single person in this rooms emotions, she would wait to talk to him after they had hunted...
Alice's eyes snapped back to where Edward was now standing, and they followed him all the way until the doors that had been thrown open, closed. Her eyes scanned the crowd of teenagers in the cafeteria, they were all either staring at the Cullen's table or at the door that Edward had stormed out of. The Cullens didn't normally do anything to draw attention to thereselves, so it was probably a surprise to them to see one of the Cullens so angry. She looked over to Jasper, he was looking at her with the expression he normally wore when they were at school. She had a feeling he wouldn't mind leaving this room full of delicious smelling, emotion filled teens. She spoke to him in a quiet tone. "Come on Jazz, I think Edward might need some help calming down." It was probably true, they could try and talk him down, but if it didn't work then Jasper's ability to calm people down might be needed.
She took her tray and dumped it much more calmly than Edward had. She also pulled his tray that he had actually throw into the garbage can out and placed them where discarded trays were supossed to be put. She turned around and headed for the door, walking at a normal human pace, but more graceful than a humans walk, she threw one last look at Bella before disappearing out the door to go find her brother.

The whole reason for him to disappear outside away from the cafeteria was to get away from the human girl and his family as well. He didn't really want to go through with their questions, he knew they would most likely start asking him if he was okay, and if he knew why he couldn't read her mind. Edward was just as confused and lost about this as the rest of them were and he knew that some of them probably wouldn't understand how he was feeling about it. Yes, of course, Edward ought to feel thankful to not have another mind in his own mind, but it was really annoying, actually. He was use to being able to hear every person's thoughts, knowing what they are saying, thinking, what they would be doing for the week and the weekend. It was kind of like a soap opera with some of the kids.
Sigh slightly, he could hear his siblings following behind him. This caused him to stop and turn around to see Alice and Jasper approaching him. His eyes glanced at the both of them, until his eyes landed on Rose and rolled his eyes a bit towards her words "Of course it wouldn't be a big deal to you, Rosalie, the family doesn't you as their center of attention for once."
Edward slightly regretted the words as they came from his mouth, but right now, he didn't care. He'd never really gotten along well with Rose from the beginning, he just didn't see how concieted one person really could be and he knew that Rose didn't really like him either, especially when he rejected her as his mate. But, Edward didn't blame himself for that, it wasn't his fault he wasn't attracted the blond girl in the way Carlisle had hoped for the vampire boy. He doesn't blame Carlisle either, he knew the father-figure was only trying to be helpful and bring Edward out of his funk and had hoped it would of worked out.
The boy pushed those thoughts away, and stared towards his siblings, the one person he could really count on to probably understand and think of this as a big deal would be his pixie sister, Alice.
