It was a Friday afternoon, and while it was cold outside, it was for once sunny. Maybe going to the beach on a day like this may not be the best of ideas, but the smell of the ocean always comforted Bella. Maybe because it reminded her of fond memories of La Push, like hanging out with her best friend since childhood, Jacob Black. Dressed in a winter jacket that her mom had gotten her, she had her arms wrapped around herself, fake fur-trimmed hood up on her head, covering most of her face from view, though she could see alright.
Right now she was just waiting for Jake to get out of school, and wasn't worried about wandering, as she knew this place like the back of her hand. Having been zoning out for a brief moment, she squealed in surprise when the water rushed up, soaking the bottom of her jean-covered legs. "Shoot." She muttered in surprise as she took quite a few steps back to avoid the water touching her again.
Pushing her brown hair behind her ear as the edges of it whipped around from the harsh winds, she shivered once involuntarily before she looked around to see if Jacob was coming yet or not.

Jacob Black decided that school was far too long. He had spent the better last half hour of school, fidgeting in his seat, as his science teacher droned on, and on, and on. All day the students had been antsy to be free for the weekend, and enjoy the warmth of sun against their skin. Sun was a rarity in La Push, so when it bothered to come out, the population was eager to take it all in. The cold didn't really both anyone. The majority of the La Push population lived either on, or right outside the Reservation, and for the most part enjoyed the out doors. That, and living a whole life in the cold, it was hard to not get used to it.
Once the final bell rang, Jacob raced out of the school. Normally he hitched a ride home from a neighbor, but since Jake was meeting Bella at the beach, he instead walked as fast as he could. Making his way onto the sand, the hood of his rain slicker was pulled up over his black, long hair. His backpack was slung over one shoulder, and an excited expression was already spread across his face. Once he caught sight of Bella's form up ahead, his pace quickened. Quietly approaching her, a light chuckle escaped his lips. "Going for a swim, Bells?"

When Bella saw Jacob walking quickly towards her, a giant smile spread across her features before she shivered again. Glancing down at her jeans briefly, she sighed when she saw just how wet the bottom of her jeans were. Sand was now sticking to them, which could be annoying to clean off when she would do the laundry.
Looking up again, Bella's brown-eyed gaze caught Jacob's and her heart fluttered for a minute, her stomach filled with butterflies. At the thought of how she felt when she saw him, a blush crept across her pale features and she cleared her throat awkwardly. The smile was still on her face though, and had only faltered slightly. "Hey." She said softly before laughing, "No, you know I'm a bad swimmer." She said before nudging him with her elbow. She took notice to his backpack slung over his shoulder and her brows furrowed slightly. "Why didn't you drop off your backpack back at home first?" She questioned.

Jacob let out a snort, as he approached her even more so. He paused once he was a foot or so away, his shoulders shrugging in response to her question. "I wanted to be in the sun." Jake stated, a lopsided grin on his face. "After being cooped up in school all day, the last thing I wanted was to head home, and have Dad give me sh*t to do." Jacob didn't mind doing stuff for his dad, but not when he had plans. Besides, Forks High School got out earlier than his high school did, though his school started a bit later. Still, he didn't want to leave Bella waiting. "Besides Bells, you were waiting. Who knows what kind of trouble would find you, if you're left unchaperoned too long."

Bella heard Jacob laugh, and her face went scarlet for a brief moment. he was probably making fun of the sand and water on her jeans. When he told her that he just wanted to be in the sun, and avoid his dad she laughed softly. "Billy always has things for you to do." She said with a smile on her features. When he spoke to her, and how she could get in trouble, if left unsupervised, she laughed softly again. "I'm not that bad, Jake." Bella said as she began to walk again, before stumbling over a shell and falling towards the sand.

Jacob had to raise an eyebrow at that. "Bella, when you were 11, you were left alone for like 2 seconds, and you ended up breaking your arm." He stated, trying to prove a subject. The back pack was beginning to feel heavy, so he shrugged it off his shoulder. The bag landed with a soft "plop" onto the sand, right besides his feet. Despite the cold weather, Jacob oddly enough didn't feel cold. Instead, he was feeling a bit warm. So, he proceeded to shrug off his rain slicker as well, and it landed besides his backpack.

Bella moved to get up, dusting herself off, sand landing everywhere. Some of it had gotten in her hair and she made a sound of annoyance. Brushing her bushy hair with her fingers, she then looked at Jacob, who reminded her of that one time when she was 11 and had broken her arm. "I landed the wrong way, not my fault." Bella said in an attempt to defend herself and her klutziness. Watching as he dropped his backpack and then his jacket, her brows furrowed again. "You're not cold?" She questioned.

'Uh huh. Sure Bells." Jacob scoffed in a joking manner, his head shaking slowly. Picking his gaze up from the sandy ground, to look at Bella, Jake shook his head for a second time. "Nah. I'm feeling a bit warm. Besides the sun's out! For the first time in ages too. Might as well feel it on your skin when you can."

Bella chose to ignore his joking comment and looked at him curiously when he told her that he felt a little warm. He didn't look pale...but could he be sick? "You feeling okay?" She asked before taking a step forward to press her hand against his cheek to see he felt warm. She wondered if he was getting the flu or something, and it had her worried.

Jacob scoffed a short "worry wart" comment, before he raised his tan hand up to his face, in order to grasp Bella's paler, smaller one. Lightly tugging it down, he however didn't release her fingers from his grasp. "I feel perfectly fine. Just a bit warm. No fever, no pukey feeling in my stomach, no aching. Just a bit warm."

Bella heard him scoff and call her a worried wart, which maybe she was, but she cared about him. Bella wasn't surprised when he grasped her hand in his to move it away from his head before she could even touch it, he was stubborn like that. However, when he didn't release her hand, she was surprised. His hand was warm, in a comforting way, and she didn't dare move hers, or mention it. "I-if you say so." She stuttered her, her heart fluttering again as she stared up at him.

Both eyebrows shot up but again, Jacob made no move to release her hand. In some ways, he liked making her nervous. He knew Bella like the back of his hand, and liked to think, even if she was radiating the tiniest vibes, and the faintest signs, he could tell how she was feeling. Maybe not on an exact pinpoint, but enough to know whether a hug or a joke was needed. Now Jacob knew she was nervous. The way her speech didn't come out effortlessly, along with the red tinge her face was turning. Both things merely made his smile widen. She didn't look overly uncomfortable, so instead of backing off, Jake moved the tiniest bit closer, and squeezed her hand lightly. "Cat caught your tongue?" Jake teased.

Bella began to panic when he he had yet to let go of her hand, and she felt numb, like she was stuck in place and could not move. Her lips parted slightly, as if she were about to speak, but no words came out. Her brows furrowed in confusion and worry as he took a step closer towards her, a wide smile on his features. As soon as his hand squeezed hers, she quickly yanked her hand back. Letting out an awkward laugh, she played with the end of her hair as she looked away from him. Her cheeks going redder at the thought of what might've happened, had she not moved away. "No, I just zoned out for a second." It was a horrible excuse, but then again, Bella was bad at lying.

Jacob looked a bit disappointed when Bella pulled away. He was used to this, however. The seemingly constant reminders that he was getting too close. The pull aways, when he'd hold her hand, and the shrug offs when he'd drape an arm around her. Jacob was far used to rejection, not that it didn't stop or even slow Jake down. He knew what he wanted, and wanted what he wanted. So, once Bella's hand was out of his grasp, he raised his own hand to scratched the back of his head. "Zoning out. Right."

Bella didn't look at him right away, in fear of seeing a rejected expression on his features. It was silly, because as kids, you could hold hands with people of the opposite sex, and not have another thought about it. Now it was different though, and she got the feeling Jake liked her as well. She feared though, that if things became more intense, that if they were to ever break up, she'd lose her best friend, and she would never want that to happen. Rubbing the side of her jacket covered arm, she then glanced up at him. "So, um, where were we going to go?" She asked in an attempt to move off the subject.
